Reflection: |
As an instructor, one must also be a student. Pedagogical research and technology are in constant evolution. If teachers are not up-to-date on the latest research and how to integrate the latest technology in their classrooms, then the students will suffer.
For this standard, I chose artifacts that I had little to no experience in. Prior to this course, I had never created a flipped classroom or video lesson, and had even heard of ThingLink and Scoop.it. In order to incorporate these, I first had to learn how to create them. By engaging in learning, it keeps me aware of the challenges that my students must face. How can I, as an instructor, expect my students to do something which I have not done (for instance: making a video). For this reason, I worked especially hard to develop the skills needed to utilize these resources in a classroom setting. There were many things I needed to look up (like certain html and css tags for the flipped classroom) to get the activities exactly how I wanted them. I included the Google Doc lesson in this list because the service innovative and depends on consistent reevaluation of the content. This is not limited simply to Docs, but includes Slides, Forms, and Sheets as well. These apps give the instructor the ability to revisit the material over and over again, to optimize it for each class. No two classes have the same needs, so the ability to modify and, especially, to collaborate with other instructors through these resources are key. |

Future Learning Goal: |
For the future, I would like to collaborate more with my colleagues. The resources like ThingLink, Scoop.it, and Google Docs I have already begun to incorporate into my current classes. This is only the beginning, of course. Later, these resources (and technologies like these resources) are going to have integral roles in my instruction. Because collaboration is such an important element, I will need to introduce my colleagues to these resources first, and, perhaps, teach them how to use some of the features. In the end, it is certain that mine and my colleagues classes are going to benefit from consistent professional development.
